Alaska, summers of 2024, 2025 and 2026

I never actually planned to go. Back in 2024 I thought “why not?” and set off certain it would be my first and last season. Today, in 2026, I am finishing my third.

For me Work & Travel was far more than a job. It taught me discipline, helped me sharpen my English and gave me the chance to see the world, meet wonderful people and collect memories for a lifetime.

If you are still wondering whether to go, sometimes a single “why not?” can change your life.

On the programme

When I arrived in America I had no idea what was waiting for me, and I certainly did not expect how much that summer would give me. It brought me different people, new places and situations that pushed me out of my comfort zone. I learned to stand on my own feet, to take difficulties more calmly and to stop fearing the unknown quite so much.

That summer showed me that sometimes the most valuable things are waiting exactly where you have never been before.

For two years now America has been my second home, and this programme is the adventure that changed me for good. It taught me to be braver, stronger and to believe in myself even when the road is hard. Yes, there are moments of exhaustion, doubt and missing the people you love, but every difficulty is worth it for the friends, the memories and the lessons that stay with you for life.

Working a summer in the USA is easily one of the most interesting things you can experience as a student.

Beyond the travelling and the incredible places you get to see, you build friendships and connections that stay with you. Nobody claims there are no hard moments and that everything is wonderful all the time, but in the end you are grateful for those too.

On the programme

This is my second summer here, and I have already been promoted to supervisor at my first job.

I will remember my summers in the USA for views that make you feel small… and for a lot of work. Here I learned that stepping outside your comfort zone is not so terrifying – and that you do not get much choice anyway, but most of the time it is worth it.

The programme gave me the chance to visit places I had only dreamed about as a child, and this summer I am adding a few more: Hawaii, LA and Las Vegas.
