Spend Your Summer Where the Mountains Meet the Sea

Imagine starting your workday with snow-capped peaks on one side, a deep blue fjord on the other, and cruise ships gliding into the harbour right in front of you. That’s an ordinary morning in Skagway, Alaska – and it could be yours. HAP Skagway Transportation Division is looking for energetic, reliable Luggage Handlers to join their hospitality team for the Summer to Fall season.

This is a hands-on, fast-paced role at the heart of Alaska’s tourism scene, perfect for university students who prefer being active over sitting behind a desk – and who want to finish the season with a healthy bank balance and unforgettable stories.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Loading, unloading and transporting guest luggage between motorcoaches, trains, hotels and cruise ships
  • Sorting, tagging and tracking bags to make sure every suitcase reaches the right guest
  • Assisting guests with their belongings and answering friendly questions about Skagway
  • Working closely with drivers, tour guides and front desk staff to keep arrivals and departures running smoothly
  • Keeping luggage storage areas tidy, organised and safe
  • Delivering the warm, welcoming service that keeps travellers coming back to Alaska

Why Skagway?

Skagway is a tiny town with a giant reputation. Once the gateway to the Klondike Gold Rush, today it’s one of Alaska’s most beloved destinations, with wooden boardwalks, historic saloons and a population that multiplies every time a cruise ship docks. Beyond the town limits you’ll find the White Pass & Yukon Route Railway, hiking trails like the Chilkoot Trail, glaciers, waterfalls, bald eagles and endless summer daylight for exploring after your shift. The Canadian Yukon is just a short drive away.

Best of all, you’ll be surrounded by a huge international crew of seasonal workers – students from all over the world who arrive as strangers and leave as lifelong friends.

The Package

  • $16.00 per hour – a strong Alaskan wage
  • Tips included – grateful guests often show their appreciation, boosting your earnings
  • 35 hours per week, with the possibility of extra hours during peak cruise days
  • Summer to Fall season – ideal for students on a long summer break
  • Genuine American hospitality experience for your CV
  • Free time to hike, kayak, whale-watch and travel

What We’re Looking For

  • University students aged 18–25 on a Work & Travel USA programme
  • Good physical fitness – you’ll be lifting bags and on your feet for most of your shift
  • Conversational English and a friendly, guest-focused attitude
  • Reliability, punctuality and a strong team spirit
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings and weekends
  • Previous experience is not required – a positive attitude is
