Job duties
- Ensuring guest safety and providing exceptional guest service.
- Standing/sitting in and out of water for long periods of time.
- Recognizing and responding effectively in emergencies.
- Enforcing all aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations.
- Inspecting facility as required and reporting any unsafe conditions or equipment.
- Maintaining skills at a rescue-ready level at all times.
- Remaining alert and attentive at all times.
- Participating in regular in-service training sessions.
- Maintaining professional lifeguarding practices at all times.
- Keeping the facilities and property clean and comfortable for guests.
- Completing additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Be the Hero of the Summer – Lifeguard in Hanover, Maryland
Imagine starting every workday with the smell of sunscreen, the sound of splashing water, and the knowledge that you are the person everyone trusts to keep them safe. AquaSafe Pool Management is looking for energetic, responsible university students to join their team of Lifeguards in Hanover, Maryland for the Summer to Fall season. This is one of the most iconic and rewarding Work & Travel USA jobs – and it pays $15.50 per hour for a solid 48 hours per week.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Lifeguard with AquaSafe, you’ll be the calm, confident presence at community pools, apartment complexes and swim clubs across the Hanover area. Your daily responsibilities will include:
- Monitoring swimmers and enforcing pool rules to prevent accidents before they happen
- Performing water rescues and administering first aid or CPR when needed
- Testing and recording water chemistry levels to keep the pool safe and sparkling
- Keeping the deck, restrooms and pool area clean, tidy and hazard-free
- Welcoming guests, checking memberships and answering questions with a friendly smile
- Completing daily safety logs and incident reports accurately
No prior experience? No problem. AquaSafe provides professional lifeguard certification training (American Red Cross or equivalent) so you’ll finish the summer with an internationally recognized qualification on your CV.

What We’re Looking For
- University students aged 18–25 eligible for the Work & Travel USA program
- Strong swimming ability – you must pass a swim test (typically 300m continuous swim, treading water, and a brick retrieval)
- Good conversational English and confident communication skills
- Responsible, alert and able to stay focused for long shifts
- Comfortable working outdoors in hot, sunny conditions
- Positive attitude, punctuality and a team-player mindset
Please note: tips are not part of this position – your earnings come from a reliable, high hourly wage and plenty of hours.
