Set the Stage for Vermont’s Best Summer Events

Ever wondered who builds the massive white tents where weddings, festivals, corporate galas and county fairs come to life? That’s the crew at Vermont Tent Company – and this summer, that could be you. Based in Essex Junction, Vermont, just minutes from Burlington and the shores of Lake Champlain, this is a hands-on, high-energy job for students who’d rather be outside than stuck behind a desk.

You’ll earn $20 per hour for around 45 hours per week, working from summer into the fall – the busiest and most beautiful season in New England.

What You’ll Actually Be Doing

  • Loading and unloading tents, poles, stakes, tables, chairs and dance floors onto delivery trucks
  • Traveling with the crew to event sites across Vermont – farms, vineyards, lakeside estates, town greens and mountain resorts
  • Installing frame and pole tents, staking, laying flooring and setting up lighting
  • Setting out tables, chairs and event equipment to exact layouts
  • Returning after events to take everything down, clean, fold and organize gear back at the warehouse
  • Working as part of a tight-knit team and communicating clearly with your crew leader

Why Essex Junction & Northern Vermont?

Vermont in summer is postcard territory: green mountains, covered bridges, swimming holes, farmers’ markets and legendary ice cream (yes, the Ben & Jerry’s factory is nearby). Essex Junction sits right next to Burlington, a lively university town on Lake Champlain packed with cafés, live music, breweries and beaches. On your days off you can hike Camel’s Hump, paddle the lake, bike the Island Line Trail, or take a weekend trip to Montreal, Boston or New York City. And if you stay into fall, you’ll witness New England’s world-famous autumn foliage in full color.

Benefits & Perks

  • $20/hour – one of the strongest hourly rates in the Work & Travel program
  • 45 hours per week with potential overtime during peak event season
  • Every day is a different location – you’ll see more of Vermont than most tourists do
  • A genuinely fun, supportive crew culture; many students return year after year
  • Build real teamwork, logistics and problem-solving skills for your CV
  • Free entry to the behind-the-scenes side of weddings, festivals and big events

What We’re Looking For

  • University students aged 18–25 with valid J-1 Work & Travel sponsorship
  • Good physical fitness – this job involves lifting, carrying and being on your feet outdoors in all weather
  • Conversational English and a positive, can-do attitude
  • Reliability and punctuality – events start on time, no exceptions
  • Team player mentality and willingness to work flexible hours, including some early mornings and weekends
  • Availability from summer through fall preferred
