General information
Job duties
- Handle sales accurately, including maintaining a daily bank, entering sales in a cash register, taking money, counting out and giving correct change, and completing credit card transactions.
- Wrap items and/or place items in bags for guests.
- Greet all guests as they enter the store in a timely manner.
- Assist or advise guests on their purchases.
- Suggest other merchandise items to go with the guest's original selection (up-sell).
- Educate guests on amenities outside of the retail location but still within the property (cross-sell).
- Stock and take inventory of merchandise items.
- Maintain and clean all retail areas including stock room, display areas, floors, and cash register/check-out area.
- Demonstrate a high level of customer service and respond to and resolve guests' concerns and complaints.
- Keep supervisor/manager informed of situations relating to facility operation, patron complaints or concerns, accidents, emergencies, damages, and potential safety hazards.
- Attend departmental and team meetings and participate in all additional training courses.
- Perform all duties in a safe manner.
- Move to different locations or job assignments within the company as needed.

Magic Fashion Ko Koes in Mackinaw City, Michigan is looking for energetic university students to join the team as Retail Sales Associates for the Work & Travel USA season – from summer straight through the spectacular Michigan autumn.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Retail Sales Associate, you’ll be the friendly face of the store and the reason guests leave with a smile (and a shopping bag). Your day-to-day duties will include:
- Greeting customers warmly and helping them find the perfect outfit, souvenir or gift
- Operating the cash register and processing card and cash payments accurately
- Restocking shelves, folding clothing and keeping merchandise displays looking fresh and attractive
- Maintaining a clean, organised and welcoming sales floor and fitting rooms
- Answering questions about sizes, prices, promotions and local recommendations
- Supporting your teammates during busy tourist rushes and helping with inventory tasks
Your Package
- Hourly rate: $14 per hour
- Hours: 40 hours per week, with the potential for a stable, predictable schedule
- Season: Summer to Fall – one of the longest available placements
- Tips: Not applicable for this position
- Experience: Real American customer-service and retail experience for your CV
- Community: Work alongside other Work & Travel students from around the globe
What We’re Looking For
- University students aged 18–25 eligible for the Work & Travel USA J-1 programme
- Conversational to good English – you’ll be talking to customers all day
- A positive, outgoing personality and a genuine smile
- Reliability, punctuality and a strong sense of responsibility
- Willingness to stand for long shifts and work weekends and holidays (peak tourist times)
- Previous retail experience is a bonus but absolutely not required – full training is provided
