Work & Travel USA: Prep Cook in the Heart of Alaska

Imagine slicing fresh vegetables while the midnight sun glows over the Chena River, then finishing your shift and heading out to hike, raft, or chase the first northern lights of the season. That’s a normal day at HAP Fairbanks Princess Riverside Lodge – one of Alaska’s most iconic riverside hotels and a favourite destination for travellers from all over the world.

We’re looking for energetic university students to join our kitchen team as Prep Cooks for the summer-to-fall season. No professional chef diploma required – just enthusiasm, reliability and a willingness to learn from experienced culinary professionals.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Washing, peeling, chopping and portioning fresh vegetables, fruits, meats and seafood
• Preparing sauces, stocks, salads, soups and other base ingredients following recipes
• Supporting line cooks and chefs during busy breakfast, lunch and dinner services
• Labelling, dating, rotating and storing products according to food safety standards
• Keeping workstations, equipment and walk-in coolers clean, organised and sanitised
• Receiving deliveries and helping with basic inventory tasks

What We’re Looking For

• University students aged 18–25 eligible for the J-1 Work & Travel USA program
• Conversational English and good communication skills
• Ability to stand for long shifts and lift up to 15–20 kg
• Reliable, punctual, hygienic and a strong team player
• Previous kitchen experience is a plus but absolutely not required
• Availability for the full summer-to-fall season, including weekends and holidays
