At Lafayette Hotels’ Waves Oceanfront Resort in Old Orchard Beach, Maine, you’ll be the first person guests meet — the smile that sets the tone for their entire vacation. This is a Work & Travel USA opportunity built for students who love people, love the beach, and want a summer they’ll be telling stories about for years.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Front Desk Agent, you’ll be the heart of resort operations. Your daily responsibilities will include:
- Welcoming guests with genuine hospitality and completing check-ins and check-outs
- Managing reservations, room assignments and the property management system
- Answering phone calls and emails, and responding to guest questions and requests
- Processing payments accurately and handling cash and card transactions
- Recommending local restaurants, attractions and beach activities to guests
- Coordinating with housekeeping and maintenance teams to keep everything running smoothly
- Resolving guest concerns quickly, calmly and professionally

Old Orchard Beach is one of New England’s most beloved summer destinations — seven miles of sandy shoreline, a historic pier stretching into the ocean, and Palace Playland, the region’s classic seaside amusement park. Evenings bring fireworks, live music, arcades and the best fried clams in Maine.
The town is famously international in summer, with students from all over the world working and living side by side. Portland, Maine’s vibrant food and arts capital, is a short 20-minute ride away, and Boston is reachable in under two hours by train — perfect for weekend adventures.
Compensation & Benefits
- $16.50 per hour — a strong wage for a first U.S. job
- 40 guaranteed hours per week, with overtime potential during peak season
- Season runs from summer through fall — a longer earning window than most beach jobs

What We’re Looking For
- University students aged 18–25 eligible for the Work & Travel USA program
- Confident, conversational English — you’ll be speaking with guests all day
- A warm, friendly personality and a genuine desire to help people
- Reliability, punctuality and a professional appearance
- Basic computer skills and comfort learning new software
- Ability to stand for extended periods and stay calm during busy check-in rushes
- Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays
