Work & Travel USA: Facilities Associate at Waves Oceanfront Resort

Imagine waking up to the sound of Atlantic waves, finishing your shift with a walk on a seven-mile sandy beach, and watching the sunset from the historic Old Orchard Beach Pier. That’s everyday life when you join Lafayette Hotels’ Waves Oceanfront Resort in Old Orchard Beach, Maine, as a Facilities Associate for the summer-to-fall season.

About the Position

As a Facilities Associate, you are the person who keeps the resort looking picture-perfect for guests arriving from all over the United States and beyond. It’s an active, hands-on role that gets you moving, teaches you real-world hospitality standards, and puts you at the heart of a friendly international team.

Your Day-to-Day Duties

  • Maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of guest rooms, lobbies, hallways, pool areas and outdoor spaces
  • Preparing rooms for arriving guests: making beds, refreshing linens and restocking amenities
  • Assisting with laundry operations – washing, drying, folding and organizing linens and towels
  • Supporting light maintenance tasks and reporting any repair needs to supervisors
  • Keeping storage areas, supply carts and equipment organized and ready to use
  • Delivering friendly, welcoming service whenever you interact with guests

Why Old Orchard Beach?

Old Orchard Beach is one of New England’s most beloved seaside towns – a classic American summer destination. You’ll find a vintage amusement park (Palace Playland), an iconic pier packed with food stands and shops, weekly fireworks over the ocean, live music, and a beach that stretches as far as the eye can see. The town is buzzing with international students every summer, so making friends is effortless.

Location is another big win: Portland, Maine’s coolest city, is only 20 minutes away, and Boston is about a 1.5–2 hour ride – perfect for weekend adventures. Lobster rolls, lighthouses, and road trips to New York City are all within reach.

What You’ll Earn

  • $15.25 per hour – a strong starting rate for the region
  • 36 guaranteed hours per week, with opportunities for extra hours during peak season
  • Tips – guests frequently show their appreciation, boosting your total earnings
  • Employment from summer through fall, giving you a longer earning window than most seasonal jobs
  • Training provided – no previous hotel experience required
  • Experience with one of Maine’s most respected hospitality groups on your CV

What We’re Looking For

  • University students aged 18–25 with a valid J-1 Work & Travel visa
  • Conversational English – enough to communicate comfortably with guests and teammates
  • Reliable, punctual and ready to work as part of a team
  • Physically comfortable with an active role that involves standing, walking, bending and lifting
  • A positive, guest-focused attitude and willingness to learn
  • Flexibility to work weekends and holidays – the busiest and most fun times at the beach!
