Job duties
- Monitors activities in swimming areas to prevent, recognize & manage accidents in & around the swimming pool.
- Monitors & regulates the behavior of guests & coworkers to prevent unsafe activities and accidents, and warns patrons of safety hazards.
- Displays a positive & courteous attitude when enforcing pool rules & regulations.
- Effectively responds to emergencies, executes rescues & first aid including spinal injury management.
- Prepares pool area for opening & closing each day, supervises all facility activities & controls entry to the facility by monitoring use of pool and guest passes.
- Keeps aquatic facilities clean including deck, restrooms, changing facility, tiles, skimmers, windows, guardroom & trash cans.
- Assists in the control of water quality, preparation of pool filter & water testing including recording of chemical readings hourly.
- Performs all duties to meet American Red Cross Lifeguarding requirements, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) & First Aid.
- Demonstrates a high level of customer service, responds to & takes appropriate action to resolve concerns or emergencies.
- Keeps supervisor/manager informed of situations related to facility operation, patron complaints, concerns or emergencies.
- Participates in or conducts swim lesson sessions if requested.
- Orders and restocks supplies for pool and surrounding area.
- Other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Supervising the hotel’s pool area and ensuring the safety of all swimmers
- Enforcing pool rules politely and professionally with guests of all ages
- Responding quickly and calmly to emergencies, performing rescues and first aid when needed
- Testing and monitoring water quality and basic pool conditions
- Keeping the pool deck clean, tidy and hazard-free – arranging chairs, towels and equipment
- Welcoming guests, answering questions and being a friendly face for international and American visitors alike
- Working as part of a supportive hospitality team at a well-known American hotel brand
What We’re Looking For
- University students aged 18–25 eligible for the J-1 Work & Travel USA program
- Strong, confident swimmers – you must be comfortable in the water
- Willingness to complete lifeguard certification training (provided/arranged locally upon arrival)
- Good conversational English and a friendly, guest-focused attitude
- Responsibility, alertness and the ability to stay calm under pressure
- Reliability, punctuality and a team-player mindset
