Job duties
- Greet guests and seat them at table or in waiting areas.
- Answer telephone calls and respond to inquiries or transfer calls.
- Provide guests with menus, inform guests of establishment specialties and features.
- Assign guests to tables suitable for their needs and according to rotation so that servers receive an appropriate number of seatings.
- Inspect host desk, dining and serving areas to ensure cleanliness/proper setup.
- Inspect all menus prior to your shift to ensure correct information and cleanliness, and notify management if something is incorrect or if additional menus need to be printed.
- Maintain contact with kitchen staff, management, serving staff, and guests to ensure that dining details are handled properly and any concerns are addressed.
- Receive and record guest dining reservations.
- Direct guests to coat rooms and waiting areas such as lounges.
- Speak with guests upon departure to ensure satisfaction with food and service, and respond to complaints.
- Supervise and coordinate activities of dining room staff to ensure that guests receive prompt and courteous service.
- Assist with serving food and beverages as needed.
- Assist with setting or resetting tables as needed.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Warmly greeting guests as they arrive and creating an unforgettable first impression
- Managing the reservation system, waitlists and seating charts
- Escorting guests to their tables and presenting menus
- Coordinating with servers, bartenders and managers to keep service flowing smoothly
- Answering phone calls, taking reservations and responding to guest questions
- Keeping the entrance and host stand clean, organised and welcoming
- Helping with light side duties such as resetting tables and assisting the service team during busy periods

What We’re Looking For
- University students aged 18–25 with valid J-1 Work & Travel sponsorship
- Good conversational English — you’ll be speaking with guests all day
- A genuine smile, positive attitude and professional appearance
- Ability to stay calm, organised and polite during busy dinner rushes
- Comfortable standing and walking for the duration of a shift
- Team players who are reliable, punctual and eager to learn
- Previous restaurant or customer service experience is a plus, but not required
Please note: this position does not include tips, but the hourly rate is fixed and guaranteed at $15.92 for all 40 weekly hours.
